One of my favorite food cuisines is Asian and I was beyond excited to find out that the family that owns Thai Orchid was opening a new restaurant in Downtown Southern Pines.
Side note-when we were looking at moving here we actually ate at this location when it was a tapas restaurant and that convinced us to make the move-then the restaurant went out of business and has been many other restaurants since then.
My daughter was off of school on Friday so we walked to the new location during their “soft opening” week. The inside of the restaurant is warm and inviting with a few different seating options. There are couch like chairs, a large bench with chairs and high top options. There is also a couch with smiley face pillows when you walk in.
The restaurant is one where you order at the counter and they give you a pager and deliver your food to you. I have been stalking the menu since they announced the soft opening on Facebook. I ordered the Duck Curry Ramen and my daughter, who is obsessed with Katsu, ordered the Chicken Katsu. We sat at the half bench half table seat and waited for our food.
The owner gave us a sample of a Thai Tea Slushie and it was delicious.
Our meal arrived shortly after and we excitedly dove in. As my daughter bit into her Katsu I could actually hear the crunch-it was perfect. She got hers with white rice but there is also the option of sushi rice, berry rice and brown rice. My ramen was so flavorful and my duck was also crispy but tender. The portions were large and we ended up brining half of our meals home. The plates are to-go style and we just added a lid and went our our way.
We loved our experience there and the owners were so kind. We will definitely be back.
